DEBUT EP
TREE INDEED
OUT NOW!
Musician Fury Young's debut EP Tree Indeed is out now. A culmination of hard-earned life-experiences, poetic soul, surrealist rap, and artland rock n’ roll.
This innovative record introduces a fresh and urgent new creative voice to the world. Fury grew up in downtown NYC in the 1990s, and channels the gritty, diverse sounds of this iconic era into his music.
For over a decade, Young has worked in music championing voices of other artists with FREER Records, the first non-profit record label in United States’ history for musicians in prison, as well as those formerly incarcerated.
Tree Indeed features five songs, which Fury created during his years traveling across America, from busking in the subways of Brooklyn, to guitar strumming at activist rallies in California, to working with musicians in prison in the deep American South. Young’s songs reflect the complex people who have made a lasting impression on his life, as well as his own soul.
“I grew up with a queer father and a non-binary sibling who struggled with their identities,” says Fury, “So for me as a cis/masc person, it is important for me to challenge societal norms in my work. I've seen how difficult it can be to be your truest self, and my music encourages people to strive for that. On my song "Freer" I sing - ‘From a place inside / that I cannot hide.’
“My father was an artist and social worker, who passed away in 2021. My mom is a therapist, so perhaps that's why I'm drawn to writing songs that are deep in psychological and philosophical exploration. But, I try not to get too intellectual and also be minimalist, poetic, and playful with words.”
With influences ranging from Bon Iver to Krayzie Bone, Fury hopes to ignite and impassion fans of all stripes with an acoustic futuristic sound that takes listeners out of the city and into the clouds. Local heroes, endless highways, and widescreen wonders fill the canvas of these records, delivered in addictive, raw melodies.
“Like the diverse neighborhood I come from, I work with artists of many backgrounds, and believe strongly in the seldom heard being heard.”
“With all these different influences, I want to add to the landscape of popular American music. I want to embrace pop culture just as much as I shake it up.”
Tree Indeed is a passionate, raucous and melodic ride through Fury’s life, loves and losses, featuring:
